UlasanAnime.com – The latest episode of Black Lagoon, episode 22, has truly showcased the series’ strength, offering a much-needed boost after a period that felt heavy with drama and interpersonal conflicts. While the middle three episodes featuring Mr. Benny’s Good Fortune provided a refreshing break, they also marked a low point in terms of production quality and directorial execution, a noticeable dip compared to season one’s standards.

The episode seems to draw inspiration from a Yotsuba& parody, with a humorous line that pokes fun at cultural stereotypes.
Black Lagoon’s muse is once again resurrected, sparking questions about the character’s appearance – is it a deliberate portrayal of “slanted eyes” or a sign of her inherent villainy? This installment is a welcome distraction from the ongoing dramatic tensions.

It’s hardly surprising to point out the established dynamic between Revy and Ginji as a foil to Yukio and Rock. This narrative thread continues into episode 23, suggesting the Japan arc will likely extend through the final episodes of this 24-episode season.
While the pacing of the manga adaptation is not something the reviewer is familiar with, there’s a question of whether the current pacing effectively drives the plot forward, especially when the usual fast-paced action sequences are absent. The episode prompts reflection on how to maintain narrative momentum when neither rapid plot progression nor high-octane scenes are utilized.
This leads to a notable observation: the voice cast this season includes talented actresses such as Omi Minami, Miki Nagasawa, and Houko Kuwashima. It’s particularly fitting that Kuwashima voices Yukio, as this character has many excellent dialogue opportunities, despite being a part-time role. For those still fixated on the “Engrish” dialogue, perhaps a self-examination is in order to address any lingering “Weeaboo” tendencies.
A final thematic element worth noting is the continuation of the bird and angel allegory throughout the series.
