UlasanAnime.com – The compelling power of Black Lagoon is undeniable.

As expected, the quality delivered was high. Following the impactful events of episode nine, the animation team at Madhouse faced a significant challenge in maintaining that standard, and they largely succeeded, though not without minor imperfections.
To effectively convey the impact of these two episodes, I’ll present some visual evidence, explain the reasoning, and conclude with my overall assessment of their badassery.
Here are two excellent scenes:

Finally, two that could have been better:

Modern anime production typically involves multiple teams, each responsible for specific segments of the animation. An overarching supervisor or team is tasked with ensuring quality and visual consistency across the entire series. However, this distributed approach can sometimes lead to noticeable dips in animation quality, especially when faced with tight production schedules.
This is not to say that Black Lagoon suffered significantly from such issues, or at least not to a degree that I found particularly jarring. Nevertheless, these production realities likely explain the variations in animation quality observed between different sequences, including differences in shading, CGI integration, and background artistry. The visual evidence presented allows viewers to draw their own conclusions.
It’s important to note that I am scrutinizing the animation quality of a TV anime with a very fine-tooth comb. For most TV anime, such detailed analysis is often unwarranted, as they generally fall short of the quality found in well-funded, meticulously scheduled productions. The fact that Black Lagoon offers enough moments of visual excellence to warrant such close examination, especially when contrasted with its less polished scenes, is a testament to its overall production value.
In conclusion, I am thoroughly satisfied with these episodes. I was treated to a compelling viewing experience. While not every fight scene was the most groundbreaking or strategically brilliant, the series delivered a funny, charming mercenary drama with a meaningful takeaway. As a viewer who appreciates what I see, I am easily pleased.
