UlasanAnime.com – A fansub group known as Frothing Frost Fansubbers has released a special “fansub” that serves as a feasibility study or pitch video. This content was included as an extra on one of the DVD releases for “Rescue Wings.”
Upon viewing this material, I couldn’t help but think, “If only!” While it’s true that if “Rescue Wings” had focused on a female pilot breaking into the male-dominated world of military aviation, it might have felt somewhat cliché, at least to a degree. Nevertheless, I’m content with the show as it was ultimately produced. However, a different direction could have made it significantly more engaging and perhaps lessened the perception of it being a recruitment advertisement for the Japanese Self-Defense Force.
In fact, such a premise could have offered Mamiko Noto, the voice actress, a role that was profoundly countercultural and a departure from her typical characters!
Or perhaps not.
