UlasanAnime.com – Kawaii Kon 2016 is approaching, and the event holds a special significance for some of the organizers who also run AWA. They reportedly take a vacation in Hawaii during the spring, coinciding with the convention. This timing is strategic, as April is considered an off-season for tourism in Hawaii, offering a pleasant escape from colder weather, especially since the temperature in Hawaii remains relatively mild throughout the year.

The convention is held in Honolulu, Oahu, specifically in the Ala Moana area, situated between a large shopping mall and the northern edge of Waikiki. Many attendees opt to stay in Waikiki, taking advantage of its status as a popular vacation destination. The author expresses a slight regret about not being able to extend their stay to fully enjoy Hawaii, as their vacation time for the year is already committed to various events.
The author acknowledges a degree of uncertainty about what to expect at Kawaii Kon, viewing it as part of the unique experience of attending a convention in a tropical locale known for its natural beauty. They also mention that the event might serve as a way to compensate for missing Sakuracon and AX, at least from Hanabe’s perspective. There’s a possibility of encountering Waka again, and a question is posed about the anticipated number of Trigger cosplayers. The author also notes a slight disappointment in not feeling more excited about Garnidelia, especially with ML3rd happening the following week.
A significant draw for the author is the appearance of Shimoda Asami. This will mark the fourth time they will see her perform within an eleven-month period, despite not being a dedicated fan of Tokachigumi.
Due to the last-minute decision to attend, the plans for the trip are minimal. Aside from a livestream scheduled for a couple of days prior and a BBQ and dinner planned for Friday, there are no extraordinary activities organized. The author expresses relief at being able to escape the unseasonably cold “faux-Spring” weather, with morning temperatures dropping below 40°F.

The author also contemplates the possibility of venturing to Europe for anime events, mentioning Anime 2016 in the Netherlands as a potentially enjoyable experience.
