UlasanAnime.com – I’m finding myself increasingly drawn to the distinctive charm of Japanese-style text-only 2ch-style Shift_JIS UI-Gothic images, a sentiment that brings back memories of 1994. This fascination, perhaps fueled by the Saimoe competition, has me re-evaluating my preferences.

Over the course of a 12-episode school year, Mugi forms a bond with this sempai, leading to the unfolding of various dramatic events.
The series offers a compelling narrative that delves into the dilemmas faced by Mika in the final two episodes of Manabi Straight. Having watched Manabi Straight before Hitohira, I suspect that experiencing them in reverse chronological order might lead to a similar appreciation, with some minor adjustments in perspective.
This connection, in a way, explains my choice of Hitohira (which translates to “petal”) as the visual representation for this blog post. The imagery, reminiscent of five cherry blossom petals, serves as an apt eyecatch from the actual show, a reasonable assumption given its visual appeal.
Mugi Asai’s recent victory in the Saimoe competition suggests that she has resonated positively with many viewers. I can certainly understand why; Hitohira is a highly recommended watch for those who appreciate high school drama at its most earnestly amateur.
