[English Title] Sasami-san@ganbaranai Episode 2 Fan Reactions

UlasanAnime.com – While not every episode will warrant a reaction, there’s a sense of obligation to discuss this one. It’s a pleasant experience to submit a quiz and receive the answers a week later, and it appears I’ve passed. Perhaps it’s even better that the anime has returned to a more easily understandable narrative.

[English Title] Sasami-san@ganbaranai Episode 2 Fan Reactions

Who's bending who to whose will?

The episode casually introduces the information that Sasami and Onii-chan are Amaterasu’s vessels at different points in the timeline. The Imperial Regalia are not mentioned, other than Shinbo’s decision to place Tsurugi in a fanservice-heavy down-shirt pose. It must be convenient when one is short. Oh, how maniacal. Tama, on the other hand, acts much like a girl her age would. This is likely the most discordant element of the show this week. Also, how old were Sasami and Kagami three years ago? How old was Tama three years ago? It’s a bit perplexing.

The most obvious, heavily emphasized reference in episode 2 is the Yamata no Orochi. Many have already commented on it, so I’ll just add my own two cents: “I guess despawning the boss doesn’t drop its loot.” The crucial point is the absurdity of playing a game essentially called ‘Devil Online’ (or, as reality does it better, ‘Diablo‘) where people are getting sucked in and trapped. Despite its immense power, all it desired was to maintain the status quo. If this isn’t social commentary on MMORPGs, then I don’t know what is.

This reminds me of humorous news articles about major nerd item release dates and their impact on American productivity.

The only other interesting development is Onii-chan being sucked in, but where did he go? It seems it’s time for a rewatch. Speaking of which, the way Sasami climbs into bed, and her bed itself, were wonderfully depicted. This show is full of simple yet deeply impactful scenes like these. I suppose that’s why the ending visuals are presented as they are.

PS. Laptops with a number pad can’t be that inexpensive.
