School Days: A Seasonal Roundup

School Days: A Seasonal Roundup

Needless to say, I’m really digging the anime adaptation of School Days so far. It’s also safe to say that it’s significantly better than all of Tsuyokiss put together, even just at episode one. I still find myself wanting a collection of all its eyecatches. I believe I’m enjoying it even more because I’ve already experienced a tiny fraction of what the game had to offer, specifically the introduction part which the first episode of the anime covered, along with some of the humorous “LOL” endings. I hold hopes for this show, even if its delivery might feel a bit like a charming older gentleman who perhaps possessed his best qualities around 29 years ago. This alone might alienate a good portion of the general anime-viewing demographic in this post-Haruhi era of television animation. Well, that’s a topic I’ll mostly keep silent about: how to adapt this tricky animated visual novel.

However, while I was singing my heart out in my car to some of Halko Momoi’s tunes earlier this week, it suddenly dawned on me that Summer is convention season, and convention season inevitably means karaoke season. And since this year, unlike the past few summers, I haven’t attended a convention yet, I feel so ill-prepared.

And that’s just one more party I’m late to. At least this particular event should be available on DVD. I really must attend Animelo one year. We can all scream our hearts out, along with our lungs and intestines, in public.

Sigh. I have a lot on my plate between now and the end of this month, so don’t expect too many entries from me. I will be at Otakon, though, and more about that exciting event will follow.

As well, that music video is still on the agenda, but there’s just no room to do anything with it or to it at the moment.

I’ll end this strange mid-week rant with a couple of questions:

1. What should I sing for karaoke at Otakon? I really want to perform SKILL at Otakon again, but that requires at least 2-3 people, ideally 6. Are you interested? Let me know! I have a list of all my old songs that I’ve performed at various conventions before, but I want to try something new. The problem is that I can’t really perform all the new songs I want to sing. I still want to do “Break the Cocoon,” but I’m lacking an off-vocal track and the English lyrics at the end. I’m also considering “Gravitation,” but Angela’s style is not one I should imitate. I could always do “God Knows” again, but I actually prefer Momoi’s cover in terms of arrangement and how it has very few breaks in the middle, except that we would need to isolate the vocals.

2. Questions for Mamiko Noto? I’ve mentioned this before: if you want to have a fun time at a convention panel, think up your questions in advance. I’m probably going to ask at least one question about Touka Gettan, but that’s just the beginning. I’ll gladly take your suggestions! Help me get my creative juices flowing.
