GKIDS, the North American distributor for Ghibli’s works, is currently hosting a special series of Ghibli screenings in New York City. This event commenced this week and is scheduled to conclude on December 20th. The author expresses a hope to attend a significant number of these screenings, particularly those films from the previous year that were missed. While a full twelve-movie marathon is unlikely, attending at least two is a definite goal. Spirited Away is slated for an upcoming viewing, with the possibility of Castle in the Sky and The Yamadas eventually being featured on the blog. A prior commitment to review Kiki’s Delivery Service still needs to be fulfilled, bringing the potential count to three or four films. The author also humorously notes a desire to rewatch Porco Rosso for potentially the third time, given it has been about a year since the last viewing.

On a more pragmatic note, the anticipated list of films includes Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Ocean Waves. Therefore, even with an ambitious viewing schedule, the author does not expect to match the ten or more films watched in the previous year, which is seen as a positive outcome.
