UlasanAnime.com – KOTOKO’s latest full solo album, “Kuchu Puzzle,” features a limited edition packed with bonus content, presented in a standard clear slipcase. The album continues a trend of artistic conceptualization, with the limited edition cover being an actual jigsaw puzzle, a characteristic that defines KOTOKO’s unique approach.
Among the bonus items is a separate CD titled “??Unfinished?? -English Ver. KOTOKO??”, housed in a single clear jewel case.
The song “??unfinished??” itself is a collaboration between KOTOKO and Sats, the prominent figure behind FripSide and Ultima. Sats handled the music composition and arrangement, while KOTOKO provided the lyrics and vocals. This bonus CD presents an English version of the track, where motsu translated the lyrics into English, and KOTOKO performed them.
The original version of “??unfinished??” is highly regarded, and its appeal is strongly linked to Sats’ signature style. This English rendition, while retaining the core meaning of the lyrics, shifts the overall feel. It leans more towards motsu’s characteristic sound and lyrical choices, highlighting his well-known English proficiency and rapping skills.
KOTOKO’s vocal delivery in the English version is described as “pretty okay.” Given that the original song already incorporated a significant amount of English, her performance in this translated version is a natural progression. However, the shift in lyrical style means it feels distinctly like motsu’s work, rather than the signature KOTOKO sound that fans might expect.
